Read All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly. Not only does make short work out of these "arguments" but it'll make you realize the character's true potential.

From the page: "I was once watching a TV show in which a round table of finance gurus were dispensing money advice to the studio audience. One of the advisors said that people should give up little luxuries like a daily Starbucks run and save and invest that money instead. A woman in the audience stood up and cried, "But what if I don't want to give up Starbucks?" The crowed roared and clapped in approval."

That's an eye opener right there.

To quote Arthur C. Clarke, "July 12. Now have everything -- except the plot."

Spoken like a true writer.

If you haven't read any Clarke, Childhood's End, Rendezvous with Rama, and the book 2001: A Space Odyssey are a good place to start.

From the page: \"Hans Zimmer, who wrote the music for the Hollywood box-office hits Gladiator and The Lion King, dismissed the majority of contemporary screen compositions as unmemorable. "They drift around like cows grazing. So many scores sound like nobody really thought about them."
